Group Ski and Snowboard Lessons
Children's Program (ages 5 – 9)
Our group lessons provide a fun, safe, exciting environment for you and your child to learn to ski or snowboard. This six-week program runs near the SSNW lodge at Summit Central. We offer six two-hour lessons especially geared toward your age and ability. The classes are intimate groups of 4-6 children to insure safety and enhance the learning experience. Our short gentle terrain, close to our meeting area, makes it easy for our young students to learn the basics of moving on the snow. During the two-hour class, students will explore the mountain, make new friends, play snow games, all while learning the basics of turning, riding the lifts, and navigating the snowy terrain.- Specially trained Instructors
- Ideal learning terrain
- 6 – 2 hour lessons
Our instructors are specifically picked and trained to work with young children. They play snow games with students which are specially designed to build and enhance skills valuable to skiing or snowboarding. All of our instructors participate in early season clinic training and many are certified by PSIA/AASI.
At the end of the season your child can show off their new expertise by participating in the slalom race course. Maybe your child will ask you to race? Afterwards enjoy a family hot dog barbeque with your child's friends and classmates.
The kids program is a great way for the whole family to enjoy the snow season. If you want to take lesson, group or one-on-one sessions are available. Or, if you would like to enjoy two hours of free skiing while your child is in class, rest assured they’ll be having as much fun as you. We will meet you at the meeting area after lessons. Then you can have fun trying to keep up with your kids.

What age groups participate in the Kids Program?
The Kids Program is designed for children ages 5 thru 9. Older students may participate in other SSNW programs that run during the same time as the Kids Program. Please see the Group Lessons for more information on these programs.
My child is younger than 5 can I still have them in lessons?
The Kids Program is not designed for children under 5. Private lessons are available for these young snow riders.
Can my child be with their best friend in class?
Yes. If the students have the same ability and age, a simple note on the registration forms will ensure the same class assignment. If students are of varying age and/or ability, assignments will be made to provide the safest setting. In this case, parents and students must agree to the assignments. If you would like to arrange a semi-private lesson for special group of friends, please see the Private Lessons page for more information.
Who instructs the classes?
Snow Sports Northwest provides well-trained instructors who are long-standing members of the Professional Ski Instructors of America - Northwest Division (PSIA-NW).

To avoid a late arrival, SSNW recommends arriving at the parking lot at least one hour before lessons start. This will allow enough time to purchase tickets, eat a snack, and find the meeting area. If your child is late, please notify a Program Supervisor when you arrive at the meeting area. Program Supervisors know which students are missing and will do their best to find your child’s class.
Where can I buy or eat my lunch?
There are several choices of dining at the main lodge. However, we recommend bringing a sack lunch.
Where do I pick up my child?
All students will be brought back to the meeting area for you to meet promptly at 2:30 pm.
When will I find out what class my child is in?
All class announcements should be received by January 1. If you have not recieved registration verification by this time, please contact Jim Smith at 425-988-3054.
How many lift tickets will I need?
Beginner skiers and snowboarders will not need to buy a ticket for the first week of class. Please check with instructor if your child will be riding the chair the second week. All other students will need to buy a ticket each day, for a total of 6 tickets all season. On lesson days, half-day tickets are available at the SSNW lodge on the 2nd floor.
Do I need my own equipment?
